The Phonograph and the Graft by O. Henry

Two grifters decide to introduce the phonograph to South America. In a small country they meet the assistant to the President whose graft is that of being the only honest man in the country. They become involved in his attempt to put down a revolution before it starts.
The story contains racial slurs of which I’ve removed the most objectionable. I don’t know whether it’s worse to leave in the remainder or to join the collective amnesia that tries to pretend such language couldn’t be heard on every street corner.
O.Henry coined the phrase Banana Republic.
