Ch07 Why Spuyten Duyvil Is So Named

A trumpeter on a mission to warn the New Amsterdam settlers of an English invasion is stopped by a body of water and no ferryman. He swears he will cross in spite of the devil and drowns in the attempt. The place is named after his oath.
