The Reluctant Dragon by Kenneth Grahame

This is the story of a boy who befriends a dragon who has taken up residence in a local cave. The dragon is more into writing sonnets than maiden devouring. Nonetheless, the locals send for St. George the dragon slayer, mainly because they love a fight and are willing to make up all manner of stories to get it.
