The Nightingale and the Rose by Oscar Wilde

My great aunt Carrie lived with us when I was 4. She was a spinster and a retired school teacher. She knew her literature. She assumed the duty of reading bedtime stories to me. I soon got hooked on the bittersweet children’s stories of Oscar Wilde and wanted them again and again. Even at age 4 most kids have figured out that happily ever after is hokum. Don’t be surprised if your youngsters like this story too.
