Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving

This is the story of the man who falls asleep and awakens to a changed world 20 years later.The story of Rip Van Winkle is to be found in the Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon. Crayon attributes it to Diedrich Knickerbocker. Both Geoffrey Crayon and Diedrich Knickerbocker were the creatures of the actual author, Washington Irving. To this day, New Yorkers who claim the Dutch settlers of New Amsterdam as their ancestors are known as Knickerbockers.
